Capacitive sensors measure their electrical capacity versus their surroundings. A person approaching such a sensor will be detected independently of any garment worn. Out of many possible applications, only three will be mentioned here:
- the use in automobiles delivering geometrical information to airbag sensors (translation of this paragraph will follow),
- roller based machines,
- and collaborative robots.
With roller based machines, capacitive sensors work especially well in form of capacitive switch rods if the processed material is electrically nonconductive.
